Since the day the BMW i3 and i8 were presented to the world, both models have been given a lot of good press for their sharp looks. They might already look great, but BMW wanted to take it a step further. The automaker collaborated with Garage Italia Customs to build two custom cars for the Paris Motor Show, and they are certainly showstoppers. Called the BMW i8 Garage Italia CrossFade and the BMW i3 Garage Italia CrossFade, the cars use shades of blue, silver, and grey in a completely new way.
Garage Italia Customs is the same company that was behind the colorful BMW i8 Futurism Edition that was introduced this year to celebrate 50 years of BMW in Italy. These new custom cars are inspired by the painting style called optical color mixing, a key part of the Pointillism movement of the late 19th and early 20th century. From afar, the colors on the exterior of the vehicles appear to fade from blue to black, but if you look closer you will notice that the effect is made using dots of color arranged gradually further apart to create the fade. If you like the shade of blue paint used, it’s actually the Protonic Blue exterior hue available on the BMW i3 with a high-voltage battery.
Besides the creative exterior of the car, the interior has also gotten the special concept car treatment, receiving electric blue highlights on the seats and seats, while the rest of the car is pitch black to draw attention to the bright color. Unfortunately for us, the Garage Italia CrossFade models are only concept cars and are not planned for any scale of production, so make sure to get a glimpse of them while you can.
