At the end of February, BMW found that its vehicle sales had only risen by a small amount when compared to February 2016. However, that sales percentage change is still a much better outcome than that belonging to MINI for February 2017.
After all, while BMW sales remained relatively stagnant, MINI sales fell by 24.1%.
BMW 5 Series Spotlight: New BMW 5 Series Lineup and Hybrids at NAIAS
22,558 BMW vehicles were sold last month. Compared to the 22,498 vehicles sold in February of 2016, that is a 0.3% increase in sales.
BMW passenger cars experienced a higher 0.8% increase in sales, with 13,887 BMW units sold last month. BMW’s fleet of light trucks saw a minor decrease in sales compared to last year, 0.6% to be exact.
The launch of the brand-new BMW 5 Series generated an increased quantity in sales for the model. 2,731 BMW 5 Series vehicles were sold last month. Other popular BMW models included the BMW X3, as drivers purchased 4,020 units of the Sports Activity Vehicle.
To date, 40,667 BMW vehicles have been sold in the United States so far this year, a slight 0.2% increase when compared to the 40,580 vehicles sold through February of last year.
A Larger Focus on MINI: Short Film Launches MINI Convertible
Unfortunately for the MINI brand, February sales experienced a dramatic decrease. Only 2,154 MINI vehicles were sold in the United States last month, a 24.1% decrease compared to February sales a year ago.
Nevertheless, BMW predicts stronger sales for both brands in March.
“March is the real beginning of the automotive selling season in the US, and BMW is well positioned for success with the right mix of vehicles and with the launch of the all-new 5 Series now underway,” said Ludwig Willisch, Head of BMW Group Region Americas.
