The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced yesterday an airbag defect recall of epic proportions, but in this, the year of the recall, is anyone really surprised? In total, 4.7 million vehicles are affected, and NHTSA is reporting that at least four people have died as a result of this defect. Drivers whose cars are affected by this recall are urged to stop driving them immediately and get them to a dealer to fix the faulty inflators.

How do you know if your car is affected by the airbag defect recall?

The faulty airbags in question were developed by Takata in the early 2000s and could be in a number of cars from automakers across the globe: BMW, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota. Drivers in Florida and Hawaii, as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands, are most likely to be affected.
